What’s Cooking Panama?

Food is fresh, local and affordable in Panama. Here are some local choices you will enjoy when you stay at our Panama Vacation Home.

Restaurants in Panama tend to come and go, so here are some that have had longevity of at least two years.

In Nuevo Gorgona or close by in Coronado about 15 minutes drive.

La Ruina (Gorgona)

La Ruina is a bar/restaurant within walking distance of our Casita, a cozy casual indoor/outdoor venue with great cocktails! I enjoy their margaritas!

The menu is a variety of home made foods including those with a Panamanian flair like the grilled pescado (fish) and deep fried plantain chips. Enjoy appys of seafood, calamari, prawns, or papas fritas ( french fries) etc. Eat inside at the bar or with groups at the plentiful tables with an option of seating outdoors by the family pool.On occasion you will be entertained by live bands or karaoke with a great dance floor.

Picasso's Bar & Restaurant (Coronado)

A very popular expat hangout in Playa Coronado, with Happy Hour every Wednesday starting at 5 pm. Their feature brick oven pizzas are a must have! It's a good idea to reserve a spot for Saturday nights for live music and dance, as it will be packed!

Every Tuesday morning go for breakfast and smoothies at the Community Market.

The menu is pleasantly surprising with of course their famous oven brick pizzas to breakfast of eggs Benedict, pancakes, eggs every which way to appys galore, like ceviche to Thai green coconut curry with chicken. And poutine!!!!

La Parada Malibu (Gorgona)

At the entrance to Gorgona off the Americas highway and a  five minute drive from our Casita. It's a cute little restaurant in the family back yard with chickens on the other side of the fence. The owner was there when we dined under the umbrella and she shared a few lovely stories. Try fresh seafood from their Pargo Frito (deep fried red snapper), ceviche in plantain cups, langostinos (jumbo prawns) with pasta, to ribs, chicken, hamburgers, basic breakfast fare like pancakes, huevos (eggs) any way you like. Make sure to ask for hojaldres (deep fried dough) I carry a bit of sugar and cinnamon always just in case to sprinkle on them and enjoy them as a dessert !! They serve theirs with chorizo! I'm sure you could ask for a couple on their own.

Coronado Eatz (Restaurant s in Gorgona and Coronado that deliver): Keep in mind that some of these may close by the time you arrive in Panama and others may open! Featured restaurants you can order from when you just don't want to cook and don't want to go out!
